NEW! Checkbox Fixer template for reports

Have you ever needed to print reports with checkboxes on them? We have and so have other developers. The problem is that the lines in these checkboxes are so thin that they don't show up when the reports are faxed. This is a problem! So to solve our problem, and our customers, we created this little product that we are proud to release now - the Icetips Report Checkbox Fixer... You can grab it from our web site for only $19.00 - yes nineteen dollars!

You can download the help for it from here and take a look at what it does and how and see if it's something for you.

It is compatible with C5.5 ABC and Legacy and available now from here.

NEW! Icetips Wizards now work with Clarion 4 & 5

Icetips Software is proud to present the first update release of our Icetips Wizards, Standard Edition. There aren't really any bug fixes in this release because no bugs have been reported since we made the last build of the initial release:) The major new feature is that the wizards now work with both Clarion4 and Clarion5.

Because of the way wizards were set up in Clarion4 and Clarion5, one line in the browse, update and report procedure templates needs to be modified to make the browse, form and report wizards 100% compatible with C4 and C5. Instructions for these changes are in the online help and in the new ReadMe file. (We will do this editing, free of charge, for those who don't feel up to it:)

Icetips Reporter & C4 Gold

The Icetips Reporter has just been updated to work with C4 Gold. Download available here.

(They also work with Clarion 5 & 5.5, both ABC and Legacy templates. The previous version for Clarion 4 was tested with C4b, rather than C4 Gold. Thanks to Odd Johannesen for alerting us to the problem.)

New name, same product: "ICETIPS REPORTER"

Icetips Software is pleased to announce a re-christening: henceforth, the product known briefly as the Icetips Report Wizard will now be known as the Icetips Reporter!

This was done because Arnold Young of Nice Touch Solutions pointed out that they already have a product for Clarion named "Report Wizard".

Adds, changes & fixes for the Icetips Reporter

Version 1.002 of the Icetips Reporter was released today. This version includes support for all possible Clarion data types, including check controls.

Version 1.001, released last week, added support for CPCS users who "hand-code" their reports (among other fixes).

Get well soon to...

Icetips would like to send our best wishes for quick recoveries to some fellow Clarionites who have been ill.

Dave Harms is recovering from heart bypass surgery. We trust he'll be back at the helm of Clarion Magazine soon, but not before he's well-rested and recovered. Bonny, take good care of him, but take care of yourself and the baby, too!

Paul Melevende of Australia spent a few days in the hospital but is home now, says he is feeling better, and is back to work (he said something about the mortgage payment not taking a break).

Steve Walker is recovering from a recent heart attack. Is Clarion bad for your health? Anyway, best wishes for good health to everyone!

Environmentally opinionated?

There's currently a hot thread going on in SoftVelocity's Chat newsgroup that covers environmental issues. Read about it in the thread titled, "An environmentalist blows the whistle", started on 11-Dec-2001 by Russell Eggen.

New virus out there!!!

This morning I got a nasty animal in the email. Norton Antivirus (version 8.00.58B - for Windows XP) caught it before it downloaded and put into quarantine. This virus is brand new: was discovered on Saturday, November 24th!!!

To quote the Symantec web site: "W32.Badtrans.B@mm is a MAPI worm that emails itself out as one of several different file names. This worm also drops a backdoor trojan that logs keystrokes."

Clarion Magazine gets new look and feel

Inexpensive workhorse PC

Want a new computer but don't need a "big iron"? We found what seems to be the best deal around... an eMachine. (a what?)

For $500 (after rebate), we got a 1.0 Ghz Intel Celeron processor, 128 MB RAM, 20 GB hard drive, CD-RW, and a 56k modem. It came with XP (home edition). Arnor upgraded the ram to 256 at our local Altex for a whole $20.

We bought our eMachine at a local Office Depot (some carry them, some don't), but they're available from online retailers, too. See www.emachines.com for more details.

Many-to-many relationships

There are a lot of ways to show many-to-many relationships between two tables, and some take more work on the part of the user than others. Dave Harms shows how to create a linking record between tables with a single mouse click.

How to make your apps load faster

Carl Barnes has written an article about optimizing DLL loading, with an introduction to rebasing. (To what? Rebasing is "specifying the base address at which your DLL will load", so you don't have to re-load shared DLLs.)

Read all about it in Clarion Magazine.

Sweepstakes at ClarionMag

Clarion Magazine is having a sweepstakes -- you could win a Compaq iPAQ, an ETC conference registration, or other prizes. For more info, go to Clarion Magazine.

Problem in 5.5F and Legacy

Phil Will of ProDomus reports that Clarion 5.5 F has problems with Legacy templates because it doesn't provide the same template symbols as all previous versions of Clarion. This can affect template developers who still support the Legacy chain in their products.

Source code in escrow?

Ever had a client ask you to place their (your) source code in some sort of escrow? There's an interesting discussion of this issue in the topspeed.topic.general newsgroup. Many different developers have contributed opinions and ideas on this thread, including a post by Bruce Johnson about the actual cost of putting source in escrow.

See the thread titled "Who puts source code in ESCROW?", started by Lee Goolsby on 17-Oct, in the topspeed.topic.general newsgroup.
