Announcing the Engagement of Sarah & Matt 15-July-2002 -- Susan Pichotta 
I am very pleased to announce the engagement of my oldest daughter, Sarah Joy Sullivan, to Second Lieutenant Matthew David Lewis, USAF. Sarah currently lives in Denver, Colorado, where she has been studying art and art history at the Community College of Denver. Sarah graduated from Clark High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1998, and attended the University of Houston before moving to Denver. While going to college, Sarah has worked at Starbucks, and now Peaberry Coffee, where she is a supervisor. Matt is a recent graduate of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he earned a degree in Engineering Mechanics. Matt is currently in the "APT pool", Awaiting Pilot Training. In a few weeks, he will be leaving for the Spangdahlem Air Base near Bitburg, Germany, where he is assigned for the next year. After that, Matt is scheduled to begin pilot training at the Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas. Matt is originally from Palm Springs, California. Sarah and Matt have no firm wedding plans at this time, but are working on it. The distance soon to be between them will complicate things a bit, but "nothing is impossible where there is love". Sarah is looking forward to joining Matt in Germany, and hopefully adding German to her list of languages, which already includes Spanish and French. She's also planning to visit every art museum she can get to while in Europe. For the romantics among us... Matt took Sarah to Las Vegas last week, to celebrate her 21st birthday. He proposed to her on the steps of the magnificent staircase in the Bellagio Casino, on his knees. People applauded when Sarah said "yes". Sarah's engagement ring is rather special. Sarah was very attached to my mother's engagement ring, which my mother had given to me, and I later promised to Sarah. So Matt had Sarah's engagement ring made with the diamonds from my mother's ring, which my father had originally bought in Alaska shortly after WWII. My mother, who is 82 years old and quite ill, was very happy to hear that Sarah had wanted to use her ring, and that Matt had done so. Sarah and Matt met in February, 2000, shortly after Sarah moved to Denver. They were introduced via email(!) by a mutual friend (the wonderful Anne McCarthy, who was in Missouri then :). Sarah and Matt met in person over coffee one afternoon, then later that week, Matt called Sarah and asked her to the Academy's upcoming Valentine's Day Dance. That was it, they've been a couple since then.
